SEBA SILVER ANNIVERSARY SUPERSTAR CONCERT ATLANTA, GEORGIA – OCT 24th

The SouthEastern Bluegrass Association is celebrating its 25th Anniversary during 2009.  The culmination of the events marking SEBA’s silver anniversary is a concert featuring the legendary all-male supergroup Longview and the widely acclaimed all-female supergroup, the Daughters of Bluegrass.

The show is October 24th at the Gwinnett Performing Arts Center in Duluth, Georgia. Details and tickets are available online at www.SEBAbluegrass.org.

SEBA’s mission is to preserve and promote the performance and enjoyment of bluegrass music. The organization hopes to generate enough revenue from the October concert and other activities and events during this year to fund scholarships for aspiring bluegrass music students. Students from the Georgia Pick & Bow program, which provides after-school opportunity for fourth through twelfth grade students to learn to play bluegrass instruments, will also perform at the concert.

Longview’s current lineup includes J.D. Crowe, James King, Don Rigsby, Ron Stewart, Lou Reid and Marshall Wilborn. The Daughters of Bluegrass includes more than sixty female artists. The eight representing the Daughters at the October show are Dale Ann Bradley, Lorraine Jordan, Jeanette Williams, Frances Mooney, Mindy Rakestraw, Gena Britt, Tina Adair and Lisa Ray.

A small group of fans and pickers had the idea for a bluegrass organization in 1984 at a festival in Ellijay, Georgia. A few months later, SEBA was born. Today, the all-volunteer, non-profit association boasts nearly 700 members with nine chapters, located in Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Allatooner’s Dulcimer Group – meeting Sunday, 9/13/09

I am a member of the Allatooner’s Dulcimer Group, which is part of the North Georgia Foothills Dulcimer Association. We meet once a month, and beginners are more than welcome! The regular monthly gathering will be this Sunday, September 13, 2009 from 1:30 – 4:00 pm at the Town View Baptist Church – Modular Building C.

The location is: 1115 Shiloh Road Northwest Kennesaw, GA 30144

Note that this is not really a jam, per se, and we don’t play bluegrass. It is mostly old-time; it is for people who want to enrich their lap (mountain) dulcimer skills primarily. There are a lot of beginners, so don’t be shy. Autoharps are known to show also.

Follow the Duck!

Hi Gang,
This is a reminder that I will be leading a bluegrass jam at the Ragamuffin in Roswell this Friday, August 28.  They bill it as a bluegrass gospel jam, but we do bluegrass standards and instrumentals as well.  The jam starts at 7 pm.  I hope to see you there.
